"The thing that's so striking is how cheap and tawdry it gets. He has to make a joke about Newt Gingrich's daughter getting an infection. This is the class act as compared to Imus?"

--William Bennett, author, former cabinet Officer, and Republican activist,
as quoted by free-lance newsman Marc Morano. Mr. Bennett walked out on
comedian Al Franken, the speaker at the White House Correspondents

"Last year the high court was able to muster only a 5-to-4 majority for a decision that carrying a gun near a school was not interstate commerce. That is how closely balanced it is between sanity and insanity."

"Today's extreme secularists who would cynically suggest that the National Day of Prayer is a bad idea or even unconstitutional completely discount the power of prayer and pervert the meaning of the First Amendment which guarantees our religious freedom. --Shirley Dobson, chairman of the National Day of Prayer task force in
Colorado Springs. Washington Times, April 21, 1996, Page B4

"Howard, something terrible is going to happen to you. This book [the Bible, which Stern had brought along as a prop] will strike you down. I am sounding like an evangelist now, but I predict that's what will happen. Suddenly, all that is in this book is making perfect sense to me."

--Jay Leno, rebuking Howard Stern on the air on NBC's Tonight Show with

"Last February, high-ups in these agencies [The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Marine Fisheries Service] quietly inserted into the Federal Register a proposed rule change for the Endangered Species Act, which would allow at the discretion of agency "experts" listing hybrids deemed to "resemble" a threatened or endangered ancestor, and breeding of such "inter-crosses" in captivity on occasion "to increase genetic variability" of a species at risk."

--Nationally syndicated columnist, Alston Chase, who compares this change
to the American Kennel Club recognizing all mutts which "resembled"

in federal prison for two counts of mail fraud. He plead guilty to
the least serious charges in the indictment in a plea bargain deal.
He will still be receiving his estimated $96,479 per year pension
while in prison. Washington Times front page, 4/10/96.

"It will be very hard, if not impossible, for Bill Clinton to look Roman Catholic and evangelical voters in the eye and ask for their support in November."

--Ralph Reed, executive director of the Christian Coalition, on Clinton's
veto of the bill banning partial-birth abortions. Washington Times

"It suggests way to reward caring behavior in the economy, such as raising the minimum wage, reducing the workweek to 30 hours to allow more time for family life, building more family-oriented networks in communities giving parents one year of paid family leave, creating a National Families Day, challenging media cynicism, and replacing the high school Scholastic Assessment Tests with empathy training."

--Julia Duin, reporter for the Washington Times, on the three-day Summit

on family and the media. The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer, July 11, 1995.

The TV industry [receives] billions of dollars every year from large corporations. They do this by claiming that repetitive ads will actually affect people's actions. Yet they act as if [viewers] turn off their brains the minute the ads stop.

Los Angeles Times, June 14, 1995, in response to a column that

[Ronald Reagan] has kept his focus on the real enemy: wrong ideas. Even when he attacked ideas he didn't like, he never attacked the people who held them.

    - Nationally syndicated columnist Cal Thomas in the February 4, 1996 Washington Times.
      Page B1.

In 1929, the last year before the Great Depression, federal spending was 2.6 percent of gross domestic product, and most went for the military and the deferred costs of prior wars. Federal spending is now 22.7 percent of GDP, and most goes for programs for which there is no explicit constitutional authority.

    - William Niskanen, chairman of the Cato Institute and past economic advisor to
President Reagan, in the January 30, 1996 Washington Times. Page A19.

This is a much broader and deeper commitment than what the American people realize. It runs far beyond mere "peacekeeping." It is nothing less than the total, systematic restructuring of Bosnian society in accord with liberal-utopian values that have little chance of taking root. This is a full-blown expression of the "enlargement" of American foreign policy that has been the hallmark of the Clinton administration.

    - Republican Congressman and chairman of the House national security subcommittee on
military procurement, Duncan Hunter in the February 4, 1996 Washington Times. Page B4.

Government has laid its hand on health, housing, farming, industry, commerce, education, and to an ever-increasing degree interferes with the people's right to know. Government tends to grow, government programs take on weight and momentum as public servants say, always with the best of intentions. But the truth is that outside of its legitimate function, government does nothing as well or economically as the private sector of the economy.

    - Ronald Reagan, in his acceptance speech of the Republican nomination for his second
term as president, on August 23, 1984, as quoted by nationally syndicated columnist

in Pittsburgh, PA. [Washington Times, 2/25/96 - Commentary, Page B3]

"The protective system... is conservative, while the free trade system is destru ctive. It breaks up old nationalities and pushes the antagonism of the proletariat and the bourgeoisie to the extreme point... [T]he free trade system hastens the social revolution. It is in this revolutionary sense alone... that I vote in favor of free trade."

--Karl Marx, as quoted by Pat Buchanan in the Washington Post, 10/30/95.
Read it again, and think about it. Remember, this is Marx' quote, not
Buchanan's. And this is not necessarily the position of "mainstream"
(as the media calls them) conservatives.

"We plan to eliminate the state of Israel and establish a Palestinian state. We will make life unbearable for Jews by psychological warfare and population explosion. Jews will not want to live among Arabs. I have no use for Jews."

--PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat, in a closed meeting of Arab ambassadors
in Stockholm on January 30, 1996. These remarks were first reported
by a Norweigian newspaper and later confirmed by Israel's most respected
military correspondent, Ze'ev Schiff, in the Ha'aretz newspaper.

"The AFL-CIO has announced plans to spend $35 million to defeat 75 Republican members of Congress in the 1996 November elections... The National Education Association, one of the most powerful of all the individual unions, has targeted 42 Republican congressmen for defeat...The NEA has already spent $4.75 million on a multimedia ad campaign designed to scare voters about Medicare and Goals 2000 reductions."

--Nationally syndicated columnist, Phyllis Schlafly, in the March 3, 1996
      Washington Times. Page B1.

"Personally, I am tired of being called a "right-wing kook". I do not agree with the term "religious right" (unless it is in contrast to "religious wrong"), nor do I understand the media term "Ultra-orthodox," when speaking of people who follow Biblical Law. I am not a homophobe just because I think that open homosexuality is wrong. I think I am "pro-choice," it's just that the choice needs to made BEFORE jumping into bed, not after a child has been conceived. I am not an isolationist just because I think my responsibility is to my country above all others. And I am not building a wall around the country when I demand Fair Trade, not Free Trade. Believing that we should not practice the old Soviet-style revisionist history (eg pretending that the Confederacy was not a part of my state's history) does not make me a racist. And calling me names is not the way to convince me that the GOP really wants my support."

--Elaine Stearns, in an e-mail on the Buchanan Brigade listserv.

"Thursday's increase [in the National Debt] ($1,393,326,642.18) is enough money to purchase a new 1996 Dodge Neon ($9,987 per car) for all 139,426 residents of Rockford, IL."

--America's Red Ink, Putting the National Debt in Perspective from
Washington Times, 3/9/96. page A4. The total National Debt as of
      3/7/96 was $5,017,740,794,543.75.

--Jay Sekulow, chief counsel for the American Center for Law and Justice,
criticizing a Supreme Court decision to let stand a lower-court ruling
that allowed Falmouth, Mass., public schools to distribute condoms
without notifying parents. ACLJ press release, 1/8/96. As quoted in
      Citizen magazine 2/19/96, Page 8.

"The evaporation of four million (people) who believe in this crap would leave the world a better place."

--Andrei Codrescu, in a commentary on National Public Radio's All Things
Considered (12/19/95), referring to Christ's rapture of His church.

"That Christians are forced to pay nearly $300 million a year to promote this anti-Christian bigotry is a disgrace. Had Mr. Codrescu referred to Jews, blacks, women, or even homosexuals in a similar vein, he would no longer be employed by NPR. It is time for Congress to stop funding this anti-Christian bigotry."

--American Family Association president Donald E. Wildmon. AFA Journal,
      February 1996, front page.

"Use care not to use the shorthand term 'Abortion Doctor' when referring to a physician who provides other services as well. ...Same for clinics in which abortions are performed. Call them Women's Clinics, or Women's Health Clinics."

--Excerpts from a memo distributed by e-mail to reporters and producers
at CNN, Ted Turner's cable news opertion, December 8, 1995, as reported

"In New York, an inmate claimed he was improperly locked in his cell for taking an extra piece of cake in the mess hall. A federal court awarded him $200 in damages. Meanwhile, taxpayers were out thousands of dollars for work done by the attorney general's office -- and a whopping $100,000 for the inmate's lawyers from the top-of-the-line Wall Street firm of Cadwaller, Wickersham & Taft, assigned by the court to represent him."

--Dale van Atta, in The Scandal of Prisoner Lawsuits, as
published in Reader's Digest, April, 1996.

"It is impossible to build sound constitutional doctrine upon a mistaken understanding of constitutional history.... The establishment clause has been expressly freighted with Jefferson's misleading metaphor for nearly forty years.... There is simply no historical foundation for the proposition that the framers intended to build a wall of separation [between church and state].... The recent court decisions are in no way based on either the language or the intent of the framers.

--William Rehnquist, Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court in 1985,
in the case of Wallace v. Jafree, 472 U.S., 38, 99. As quoted in
America's God and Country by William J. Federer.

"The church must take a right stand in regard to politics. Do not suppose that I am going to preach a political sermon, or that I wish to have you join in getting up a Christian party in politics. No, you must not believe that. But the time has come that Christians must vote for honest men, and take consistent ground in politics...God cannot sustain this free and blessed country, which we love and pray for, unless the Church will take right ground. Politics are a part of a religion in such a country as this, and Christians must do their duty to the country as a part of their duty to God. It seems sometimes as if the foundations of the nation are becoming rotten, and Christians seem to act as if they think God does not see what they do in politics. But I tell you He does see it, and He will bless or curse this nation, according to the course they take."

--Charles Finney (1792-1875). From Revival Lectures (p.336-337),
published by Fleming H. Revell Co.

"The editors of the (Los Angeles) Times had no qualms running a political cartoon that insulted millions of people of faith.... Those same editors have censored positive portrayals of Christianity."

--Ralph Reed, executive director of the Christian Coalition, in the 4/3/96
Washington Times, page A10. At issue is the L.A. Times decision not to
run a "B.C." comic strip containing "religious overtones." The week
before, the L.A. Times had run an editorial cartoon by Paul Conrad
depicting Bob Dole as Christ on a cross with "Christian Coalition"
      written across his forehead.

The Suffering Prince - By Wiley

Picture yourself tied to a tree
condemned of the sins of eternity.
Then picture a spear parting the air,
seeking your heart to end your despair.
Suddenly - a knight, in armor of white,
stands in the gap betwixt you and its flight,
And shedding his 'armor of God' for you -
bears the lance that runs him through.

His heart has been pierced that yours may beat,
and the blood of his corpse washes your feet.
Picture yourself in rainment white,
cleansed by the blood of the lifeless knight,
Never to mourn the prince who was downed,
For he is not lost! It is you who are found.
--Johnny Hart, in his "B.C." comic strip which was NOT run in the
      Los Angeles Times on 4/3/96.
