"We, the Michigan State Board of Education, grateful to Almighty God for the blessings of freedom, do earnestly desire to secure these blessings undiminished for our children."

 

--Excerpt from the Mission Statement of the Michigan State Board of Education, which was taken almost word-for-word from the preamble to Michigan’s state constitution. The supposedly offensive statement was removed by a 5 to 3 vote. American Family Association Journal for August 1997. Page 12.
