many eyewitness and film accounts of tanks brutally crushing protesters
camped out in the main Bejing city square on June 3 and 4, 1989. Western
intelligence estimates put the death toll between several hundred and several
thousand people. The Chinese government has said about 300 people were
killed in the incident, mostly Chinese soldiers. He was shunned by most
Republican members of congress during a breakfast reception on Capitol Hill,
